Some eyes in the sketchbook that always made me company while I was living in Valencia. Eyes are, in my opinion, a crucial feature of a character. There are wonderful illustrations with an enormous level of detail and technical mastery but, in spite of that, feature expressionless void models. I’d rather have a quick sketch that comes much more alive than the greatest level of realism. I usually worry more about the story that contains that the form and, as they say, “eyes are the soul mirror”. Also, I’ve always loved that Machado micro-poem that went:
“El ojo que ves no es ojo porque tú lo veas; es ojo porque te ve.”
(The eye you see it’s not an eye because you see it; it is an eye because it sees you.”)
